Clutter Free Challenge: Day 2

So, I started this 31 day clutter free challenge and today is Day 2. Day one was just getting ready so day 2 was the first day of before and after photos and really getting to work. Today’s challenge was the entry way.

I already have a shoe bench in place but we tend to pile things on top of it, so I had to get those things out away. And then I cleaned out the shoe cubbies and had to put away a pair of outgrown shoes, a shoe without a match, Sunday shoes that the kids are supposed to keep in their closets, a ball cap, and a colored on toilet paper roll that someone had been playing with and was probably asked to put away 😉  I wiped down the shelves and reorganized the shoes so each person has their own column going from oldest to youngest, making sure no one had more than 3 pairs of shoes in the cubbies.

The front closet is where we keep all the snow gear. Again, I already had tools in place so I just had to clean it up. I emptied out the snow boot basket and put away everything that didn’t belong:  gloves, hats, socks, a towel that was used to dry off boots, and even 2 hair bows. All the gloves, hats, umbrellas, etc go in the over the door organizer that is full again now that the boot basket got cleaned out.

My last space is our hooks and I didn’t have to do anything there. Because it still gets chilly in the evening and mornings throughout our summers, I let the kids each keep out a jacket and our one school age kid keeps his backpack there. Each kid has their own hook and it’s worked really well since we put it up a few months back.

Thanks for sharing! It looks so clean and organized! I love the idea of giving every kid their own cubbies and hooks. I need to implement that someday.

Having their own designated spot dies make a difference. However, my one child in school will still drop his backpack on the floor under the hook instead of putting it on the hook 😉 Always a work in progress with kids!

Haha – so true! At least he is getting it in the general area. 🙂
