Make summer outings easier, with a summer “go bag”

Getting out and about with the kids this summer can be a challenge if you have as many little ones as I do. But a recent experience led me to finding a away to make summer outings easier.

So, my sister and her 7 kids and her mother in law came for a visit for a couple of days as they were passing by this way at the end of a 3 week road trip. We had the best time!  But on the 2nd day of the visit, one of the kids wasn’t feeling well and we just kind of hung out, waiting to see if he would be well enough to go do anything.  Then, very quickly, it was decided that he was feeling better and we were going to go to 3 different attractions that were about an hour away. I quickly herded my kids off to use the bathroom and get shoes on while I packed essentials for the baby. But I forgot to get anything for the other kids (ages: 3, 3, 5, 7).

Luckily, my sister had her van packed full and was willing to share, but  I realized it would’ve been so much easier on my kids if I would’ve had some supplies handy.

So, I now have a “summer go bag” packed and ready to go so I can grab it on the way out the door anytime we want to set out for some impromptu fun this summer. I included:

  • sunscreen
  • non perishable snacks
  • bottles of water
  • plastic cups that food can easily be divided into
  • baby wipes for quick and easy cleanup
  • camera

Do you have a bag packed and ready to go?  What other things would you include?
