simply perfect mashed potatoes

This is my favorite recipe to bring to holiday gatherings.  It wows every time even though it is such a simple recipe.  If you’re serving a crowd, you definitely want to double it!  We served 17 people at Thanksgiving this year (mostly kids) with a double recipe and only ended up with a little bit of leftovers that were quickly polished off later in the day.

Ingredients
  1. 5 lbs russet potatoes
  2. 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  3. 16 oz sour cream
  4. 1-2 tsp salt
  5. dash or two of pepper
  6. 1 tsp dehydrated minced garlic
Instructions
  1. Peel and cube potatoes, then boil until tender.
  2. After draining the water from the boiled potatoes, while still hot, add potatoes and all other ingredients (start with 1 tsp of salt) to a large bowl. Mash and mix by hand or my favorite way, with a stand mixer.
  3. Taste test and add more salt as necessary.
Notes
  1. Mashed potatoes can be made a few hours ahead of time and kept warm in a crockpot on the "serve" or "warm" setting.
  2. While potatoes are still hot, top with a few tablespoons of butter.
