When I was growing up my mom could always find anything – at least that’s what it looked like to me. We always said that moms had special eyes that could find anything, even if it was in a place we kids had already looked several times.
This week, I realized that either I have yet to receive my magical mom eyes or my perception as a kid was a little bit off. On Monday morning, I went to make lunch for my first grader (peanut butter sandwich) and my large peanut butter jar was no where to be found. We had just used it the day before and I looked everywhere – even the places it shouldn’t be. Because we’re big peanut butter fans around here we had more on hand, but it drove me crazy that I couldn’t find the missing jar!
On Tuesday, my first grader couldn’t find his school shoes. We were able to make do with another pair, but again it drove me crazy that we couldn’t find them and had looked everywhere.
On Tuesday night, my sons school shoes were in his closet. What?! I questioned everyone with a very accusatory tone, demanding to know who had put them there since we had looked in that closet several times. But no one knew how they got there – at least no one would admit it!
On Wednesday afternoon, after being missing for 2 days, I found the peanut butter. What strange place was it in? The pantry, right where it belonged! I had looked there at least half a dozen times and then been in and out of there getting things to make food over the last couple of days. It had gotten shoved in a corner behind a box of rice. If I had had my magical mom eyes, I would’ve found it the first time I looked! Am I the only mom who hasn’t received those magical eyes yet?
