Zen Shorts by Jon J. Muth is one of my favorite picture books in our home library. The illustrations are great and the story is beautifully written. It reads very differently than most picture books, at a more mature level. And yet, my kids all love it, too.
The story is about a panda bear that becomes a neighbor to 3 children. They interact with him and he teaches them important principles through 3 short stories.
I’m very picky with the children’s picture books I choose for my kids. So many of them seem to just be written to get a laugh. And while I enjoy some of those, too, I really love a picture book that is an enjoyable read, not just for the kids, but for me, too.
