Did you notice that today is the 20th and I’m barely posting about day 14? I’ve gotten a little behind in the Clutter Free Challenge, but I’m still plugging along and doing my best to do something every day.
Day 14 is the master closet. My closet has gotten so out of hand. To the point that it is difficult to get in and put things where they belong (so they just get dumped on the floor and continue to make the problem bigger!). And since my closet serves not only as my closet but partially as a storage room . . . well, it just adds to the problem. So, I got rid of a few things, put things away in the right places, and found a better way to organize some things.
- I added a shallow storage container where I can keep the papers that my kids color for me (at least for a little while until I will clean it out to make room for more) so they don’t think I just throw everything they give me away 🙂
- I use a small bookshelf for my shoes so they don’t take up all my floor space.
- I use plastic drawers since I don’t have a fancy closet system. They actually serve as extra clothes storage since there’s not enough space in our dresser and additional bathroom storage. By putting them underneath where my shirts hang, I can maximize that space.
- I use plastic tubs for clothing that I’m not currently wearing . . . Maternity clothes in one, clothes for the months right after having a baby when nothing fits, clothes that are a little smaller. Most of those tubs are in the shelf above the hanging rods (not pictured below). One day, after the baby years, I look forward to not having to store so many clothes!
That was it for my closet. It’s nice to have a separate closet space from my husband. I rarely go in his closet and it actually looks much better than the before picture of my closet anyway 😉
