Clutter Free Challenge, Day 17 – kids’ bedrooms. Since most of the kids’ toys are kept in a playroom that we already decluttered earlier in the challenge, this one wasn’t too bad. But my girls have a few toys and some other small trinkets and we’ve never had good storage for them. And the IKEA spice rack as a bookshelf, while cute, just wasn’t working at all.
So, I picked up a new-to-us small bookcase at a yard sale last weekend for just $5. We like to use small bookcases for bedroom storage since we don’t have those neat closet organization systems with all the shelving. Cheap yard sale bookcases are perfect! I added a couple of storage containers to corral the small items and we now have great storage in their room! I also threw away a bunch of stuff that I convinced them it was okay to part with. Getting kids to part with their papers, broken toys, and cheap trinkets is one of the hardest tasks of parenting, if you ask me!
Oh, and they have this doll crib that an ever growing pile of stuffed animals call home. I had each of the girls pick out just 4 to keep out. They were only willing to part with a couple of them for good, so we stored the others away so they’re at least not out adding to the clutter. It is so much nicer when they choose an animal to sleep with now. They can see everything and picking between 4 items is a lot faster than picking between 12!
