How did the year go for you? Did it happen just as you expected? If you’re like me, there’s no way you could have predicted how this year would go. It was far from boring for us, though I would take boring right now if I got to choose!
In the spring, one of our 7 year olds was suffering from migraines on school days and I pulled him out of school to do home school while we worked with specialists to figure things out. Then we had kids suffering from allergies and other chronic problems and ended spending our summer in a different state from my husband (he had to stay and work) to see if we could alleviate some symptoms by getting away from the allergens here. Oh, and all that was right after a tonsillectomy for the kid with migraines and we discovered he needed glasses, too. Plus, our youngest started having headaches; she desperately needed glasses and we had no idea her eyes were so bad. Then, we got back and were only home for 2 weeks when my husband left on an unexpected 6 month work trip. He’s still gone and we’ve gone through one challenge after another while he’s been away, including a mom (me) with pneumonia, a broken arm, a trip to the ER, carp problems, and more.
I certainly didn’t expect any of that!
When we got home today from having my daughter’s stitches removed, I jokingly told her she was not allowed to get injured again for several months. We laughed and I once again told her, that really, things like this are just life. We’ve had a whole lot of life happening to us, one thing after another this year, but in reality, these things do happen to everyone and it is just part of life.
And it’s easy to focus on the hard. And it’s easy to look at this past year and say how much we are thrilled to have it in the past, in the hopes that the coming year will be better.
So, this year, I want to do something that my mom did when we were growing up. She started putting together scrapbooks of our family highlights each year. I love that idea! And while I don’t scrapbook anymore, I want to do our Top 10 for the year. So, tomorrow, I’ll gather the kids and we’ll look through pictures from the last year, to help jog our memory, and come up with a Top 10 List of our best moments/adventures from this year. Because there really is a lot of good in life, if you just learn to look for it!
So, here’s to a great year in the past and a great year to come! I’d love for you to share a comment with your top 10 from this past year. Let’s read about all the good in our lives!
