This is my favorite recipe to bring to holiday gatherings. It wows every time even though it is such a simple recipe. If you’re serving a crowd, you definitely want to double it! We served 17 people at Thanksgiving this year (mostly kids) with a double recipe and only ended up with a little bit of leftovers that were quickly polished off later in the day.
Simply Perfect Mashed Potatoes
2019-12-09 10:18:27
Ingredients
- 5 lbs russet potatoes
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
- 16 oz sour cream
- 1-2 tsp salt
- dash or two of pepper
- 1 tsp dehydrated minced garlic
Instructions
- Peel and cube potatoes, then boil until tender.
- After draining the water from the boiled potatoes, while still hot, add potatoes and all other ingredients (start with 1 tsp of salt) to a large bowl. Mash and mix by hand or my favorite way, with a stand mixer.
- Taste test and add more salt as necessary.
Notes
- Mashed potatoes can be made a few hours ahead of time and kept warm in a crockpot on the "serve" or "warm" setting.
- While potatoes are still hot, top with a few tablespoons of butter.
